Just got a leaflet through about the indy referendum next year. HWFG I guess...

scotpol

@derwinmcgeary you'd think with all the shenanigans down in Westminster, and the demolition of the social contract down south, this would be in the bag 🙄.

scotpol

@onepict I would hope so, but it's also just going to get rancorous and nasty, and I'm expecting the same kind of foreign interference as we had for Brexit but on the side of indy, which is going to be hard to disavow and deal with cleanly.

Would love a good result, but I can't say I'm looking forward to the process.

scotpol

@derwinmcgeary yeah, everything is kinda fractured as well in the movement.

It's going to get very nasty, well more nasty than it has in the first place.

@onepict @derwinmcgeary based on the analysis I've been reading/viewing, a majority voting in favor of Scottish independence seems more unlikely this time round than before, no?

@argentum @derwinmcgeary I think it's going to depend on the grassroots again.

Grassroots campaigning got the pre vote poles from low figures to 45 percent.

Looking at local elections and the last general election also shows there's more of an appitite.

Scotland also voted in favour of the EU, yet another vote, where Scotland votes for one thing but is outvoted by RUK.

But it does need various indy factions to work together.

scotpol

@argentum @derwinmcgeary but honestly I think I'll get French citizenship faster than Scotland will vote and more importantly gain independence sadly.

scotpol

@onepict @derwinmcgeary thanks for your response. If I may ask, what were the main drivers in your decision to get French citizenship?

I'm actually in the process of registering for British citizenship (by descent), but not necessarily to move to the UK. Just to increase options.

scotpol

@argentum @derwinmcgeary well I decided I wanted to move to France for personal reasons, we also wanted to live in Europe so we moved just before Brexit as freedom of movement is important to myself and my partner.

There's also more investment in FOSS and the next generation internet now. Whereas in the UK there's a certain way of doing things and knowing people and structures. The EU isn't perfect, but it feels more like its changing.
